Each year the Cleveland Institute of Art seeks to bring together a diverse group of art educators who have demonstrated a commitment to making, both in their personal studio and classroom. We create a stimulating and rigorous environment for a period of concentrated artistic creation, interaction and growth.

Apply between November 1, 2017 and March 1, 2018.

  • Acceptance notification is March 15, 2018
  • Graduate Credit confirmation and tuition is due April 16, 2018

Residency dates are Tuesday, June 19 to Friday June 29, 2018.

What is included in the tuition cost?

  • The program fee includes up to $150 in supplies, access to the studios/facilities, professional development events, accommodations in the Uptown Residence Hall, lunch and dinner daily, breakfast where noted in schedule.

How will I get my supplies?

  • Once accepted into the program, residents will submit a material request list. This can include supplies up to a total amount of $150, to be covered by the tuition cost. After we receive and approve your material list, we’ll pick up the supplies and have them waiting in your studio!

How many CEUS or Graduate Credits can I earn?

  • Through our partnership with Kent State University, residents can receive graduate credit for their stay in the program. An additional fee and writing component will be required. Please ask Julia Murphy at jvmurphy@cia.edu for details. All participants are eligible for a certificate showing their participation with up to 100 contact hours, or 10 CEUs.

What is the schedule like?

A typical day would look like this:   

9am-noon     Studio
Noon-1pm        Lunch
1-6pm            Studio
6-7pm            Dinner
7-9pm            Studio

*The schedule will vary slightly due to professional development and resource presentations.

What if I’m not ready to submit my proposal?

  • That’s okay! Just tell us some of the ideas you’re thinking of and we will follow up with you to develop your proposal more. With this option, we will help you create a timeline for solidifying your proposal and preparing preliminary sketches so that by the time the residency begins, you’ll have a solid plan for your 10 days at CIA.
