This handbook contains information that employees will find useful in getting answers to questions concerning benefits, programs, and operational policies during their employment at CIA. The nature and scope of these benefits are defined in more detail in the sections that follow.

Employee suggestions on how to improve CIA are always welcome and should be discussed with supervisors. CIA looks forward to a mutually beneficial relationship between the College, employees, faculty, and students. This handbook is one step toward achieving that goal. This handbook will be reviewed and revised periodically in order to adapt to changes and create new opportunities for individual and organizational growth.

Mission, Vision, Core Values

The College recently revisited its mission, vision and values, as part of a five-year strategic planning project. These principles are critical to our sense of community and drive our decision-making process.

1.1 Equal Employment Opportunity—EEO

It is the policy of the Cleveland Institute of Art to provide equal employment and advancement opportunities to all applicants, candidates, and employees. We do not discriminate in employment opportunities or practices on the basis of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, genetic information, race, color, religion, national origin, age, mental or physical disability (if basic job qualifications are met), military status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. This policy governs all aspects of employment, including selection, job assignment, compensation, discipline, termination, and access to benefits and training.

Inquiries concerning the application of Title IX requirements may be directed to the VP of Human Resources + Inclusion, you may also contact the Office for Civil Rights, US Department of Education, 1350 Euclid Avenue, Suite 325, Cleveland, OH 44115, 216.522.4970, or OCR.Cleveland@ed.gov.

Engaging in any type of unlawful discrimination or harassment of another employee, contractor, or visitor will be cause for corrective action, up to and including termination of employment.

1.2 Commitment to Diversity

The Cleveland Institute of Art recognizes and embraces diversity and believes that an outstanding arts education should be accessible to all individuals regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, military status, veteran status, socio-economic status or ability. It is essential for the College to advance diversity by encouraging our community to share a responsibility in creating, maintaining and developing an environment in which difference is valued, equity is sought and inclusiveness is practiced.
